About the Job

Job Description Summary:

The Welding Supervisor will be located at the HPC New Build Project in Somerset, UK, as part of a team supporting the Turbine Generator Shaft line erection. This project involves the installation of 2 x 1750 MW Arabelle Steam Turbines & Generators. The key principles of the project are world-class execution, safety, quality, and timely delivery.

The Welding Supervisor will manage all shaftline site welding activities, including planning, organizing, workscope integration, resource management, equipment identification, and ensuring technical requirements are met according to contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow GE policies, procedures, and complete necessary documentation.
• Take ownership and responsibility for technical, quality, and safety aspects in the workplace.
• Lead a site-based welding team and ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all team members.
• Conduct daily meetings, toolbox talks, and ensure safe work practices.
• Understand contractual drawings to identify welding requirements for various construction codes (e.g., ISO, ASME) and ensure correct welding documentation is available to the team.
• Maintain a thorough quality management system for each event in line with relevant applications.
• Demonstrate excellent understanding of material weldability, heat treatment (pre/post weld), purging methods, etc.
• Communicate with the GE quality team and client’s technical representative on technical welding matters.
• Monitor and control daily progress to ensure project scopes are achieved.
• Cooperate with team members from other trades to ensure materials/components are prepared correctly for welding activities.
• Solve site issues that could affect the contractual schedule.
• Order the correct welding equipment, tooling, and consumables in advance.
• Manage work areas under strict Foreign Material Exclusion rules.

Required Qualifications:

• Level 3 pipe welder apprenticeship standard (ST0851) or equivalent apprenticeship in welding, or relevant diploma (CSWIP 3.1 visual welding inspection or PCN Level II).
• Proven experience as a Welding Supervisor in a relevant industry.
• Demonstrated progressive, responsible experience with various types of turbine generator equipment and site accountabilities.
• Fluent in English.

Desired Characteristics:

• International/European welding specialist accreditation.
• CSWIP 3.2 Senior Welding Inspector accreditation.
• CSWIP/PCN radiographic interpretation of welds accreditation.
• Good knowledge and experience practicing EHS and Quality procedures/processes.
• Strong individual and team skills.
• Strong organizational, IT, oral, and written communication skills.
